Welcome to Inside the Box, our monthly introduction to a member of the team here at Lesters. This month weโre focussing on David Gill. As Sales Engineer, David is responsible for both new business development and for managing existing client relationships.
Tell us what a typical day looks like for you at Lesters.
Everyone will tell you that thereโs no typical day in the packaging industry, but I like to have a structure to my day if I can. I always start the day with an early morning bike ride. It really helps me to clear my head and get ready for whatโs coming up in the day. My mornings are generally spent liaising with customers, making sure weโre meeting their requirements and presenting the bespoke solutions that weโve designed for them. In the afternoon I like to focus on working with the design team, which is an area I really enjoy. Weโre lucky here at Lesters to have state-of-the-art CAD and prototyping facilities which mean weโre able to give our customers a real in-depth understanding of what they can expect from the packaging weโre developing. Outside of that thereโs always lots of effort going in to making sure we stay as busy as possible!
How long have you worked in the packaging industry?
In all, for over 30 years, and I can honestly say itโs flown by! I spent a lot of time (the first 17 years, in fact) in packaging design which gave me invaluable insight into the industry and how best to achieve the perfect packaging solution for a customer. The rest of my career has been spent in sales, where Iโve been able to use that knowledge to benefit the businesses Iโve worked for and the customers we service.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The great thing about working at Lesters is that it allows me to draw on my years of experience in design. My current role means I can use that knowledge to work closely with customers to understand exactly what they need, and I enjoy being able to come up with innovative and unexpected solutions.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
As I mentioned earlier, I really enjoy cycling and love to start the day with a few miles. Aside from that I enjoy spending time outdoors, so Iโll either be walking or youโll find me on the golf course.
